Hi all

Arriving in the caymans end of November. Do you people "dress up" for the clubs at night (long pants, nice shirts etc) or go for the casual shorts look. Hate to pack too much stuff

thanks

Hi seanscubamaster - Welcome to the forum. Very Happy

You can leave your suits and ties at home. Smart casual is about as dressy as it gets here. For upscale restaurants like Pappagallo, The Wharf, etc. I usually wear long pants, but they are not required.

I agree with Joe.

My husband usually brings a few nice pairs of shorts and a two button Polo shirt or a cotton tropical shirt. Nice looking sandals are fine too. We've eaten at many of the fine establishments - Wharf, Pappagallo and Westin and he has never once felt underdressed or out of place.

Enjoy...

Joe & Kim,

So it sounds like "no jacket required"?

I usually bring 1-2 sports jackets on Caribbean vacations when dining at the finer restaurants.

Is a jacket required at Pappagallo, Grand Old House, Lighthouse, Hemmingways, Bamboo?

Thanks,

John

John,

No jacket required anywhere! Feel free to wear a nice shirt and nice looking shorts or pants if you'd prefer and you are good to go! Enjoy your vacation without the suit!

My packing has become greatly simplified over the years as I used to worry about dress code and bringing at couple pairs of long pants and a jacket. I find the best barometer is the number of hangers you need to use. I've gone from needing 12 hangers to 3 for a 3 week trip - that seems like progress to me, not to mention not needing to bring additional pairs of shoes - makes more room for wine Very Happy

Kim,

Absolutely... the decision to pack lighter is a function of both the fear of losing more clothing... and we are down one piece of luggage ... the largest bag... coupled with a lesson learned in keeping things simpler and relaxing...

Celine,

:-D :-D

You're right... wearing the dive gear on the plane would reduce bags... who cares about the stares....and even if I did trip a flight attendant carrying the booze with the fins ... at least the wet suit would keep me dry...

Cheers

caribbeansun,

That is indeed progress... the question is how many things do you have on those 3 hangers for a three week trip.... particularly since three weeks worth of wine may indeed take up a good amount of space.. Cheers

jpep... :-D My hubby wears a pair of khaki's for the flight down and back, and then he wears the same pair for special dinners, and then just takes a couple pair of shorts and Hawaiian....I mean CAYMAN Wink shirts.....a couple t-shirts and that's about it, other than bathing suit, undewear...dive gear goes in the dive bag, which we check thru and hopefully ours gets to us.........as well as yours!

I have one "Cayman" shirt on each hanger. Take less, launder as required.

I bring along probably 5 swim suits, 4-5 pairs of shorts (2 sufficiently nice enough to go to the better restaurants), 10-12 T-shirts, no socks, no jackets, sunglasses, 2-3 ballcaps (the grass isn't growing the way it used to, if you get my meaning Crying or Very sad ), 3 pairs of sandals (1 good enough for those fancy restaurants), 3 "Cayman" shirts and dive gear.

The strangest thing is putting on a pair of socks, my jeans and my watch for the flight home - yuck!

Celine,

Speaking of packing... hope you are done... since you are leaving tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

Guess you and your hubby were concerned about trippping the flight attendants carrying the cocktails since it doesn't sound like either of you are wearing the dive gear on the flight down rolllaugh
