Cool Just booked our hotel for November. Cayman Air is the only direct flight from NY, we live in NJ. I stopped at my local travel agency, ( a large one) and they tell me I should not book Cayman Air. They didn't even know they were flying. Did they cease operations for a while? I was really hoping for a direct flight vs a long layover in Miami. I really don't know what to do now. Is it unsafe to wait a while? Looking for opinions.

Thanks Much,

Bella Palm

According to some posts here it looks like Cayman Air might be having some "growth issues" lately. Don't let your travel agent stop you if you want to fly non-stop out of JFK as they are the only non-stop from there. Many people love to fly with them. Free rum punches!

Continental flies non-stop from Newark on Saturday mornings.

US Airways flies non-stop from Philly also on Saturday mornings.

You say you live in Jersey? So do I.

I've flown both Continental and US Airways to GCM with no problems. Continental even "bumped" me up to first class without asking Smile I agree on the non-stop thing. Much less hassle. The non-stop tickets are usually about $100 more than the connecting flights though.

Have a great time!

funny story about Cayman Airways, last Feb., in Houston, when we had our plane loaded and ready to go our captian came over the intercom and announced we were waiting a few extra minutes because one of the passengers hasn't shown up yet! My wife and I just looked at each other and smiled, I don't think any other airline would be so casual in that situation!

And of course they were serving us rum punches and we were going to paradise on earth so we really didn't mind!

but on the bizzarre side, every time I book a vacation I still go to the major travel websites and punch in "our" dates to see if things have gone up or down, well about a month before our flight the non stop flight from Houston to Grand Cayman was no longer being offered, we assumed the flight had filled up BUT when we took off our plane was less than half filled..... strange....

Hi Bellabaci

I would definitely go for the Cayman Air nonstop. A year ago we got to take the CAW flight from Chicago and it was such a pleasure not to have to connect in Miami. We loved it and all went well. We also got a terrific rate, so that was a plus too.

Shelly :-)

Here is the info on the nonstop flight from the CAW website

Cayman Airways Adjusts Route Network Plan

GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, B. W. I. ? AUG 10th, 2007 ? The National Flag Carrier of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways, fine-tunes route network plan.

Cayman Airways will execute the second stage of its new flight schedule plan with the introduction of the winter schedule effective November 9th. The initial stage was implemented on June 23rd with the welcomed introduction of service to New York?s JFK Airport and increased frequency to, Miami, Kingston and Tampa.

According to CEO Patrick Strasburger, ?This important second stage includes resumption of seasonal service to Chicago with two weekly frequencies; northbound on Wednesdays and Saturdays, southbound on Thursdays and Sundays. Our New York service will initially increase to four weekly frequencies effective November 9th and a fifth weekly flight will be added February 9th for service throughout the peak winter season.

Other amendments to the airline schedule include daily service to Tampa and an increase in service to Kingston from 12 to14 weekly flights.

?In order to facilitate these more popular and lucrative routes, Cayman Airways will be suspending service to Houston,? said Strasburger who added, ?Service was already suspended during the off-peak September/October time frame; however, advance booking reports indicated low forecasted loads throughout the peak winter season. The airline does not expect to re-enter the market in the medium term but rather to instead concentrate on successful, more productive routes for the airline.?

Continental Airlines has confirmed it will continue to provide nonstop service to its hub in Houston with continuing service to the U.S. west coast along with key destinations in Texas and Louisiana. Cayman Airways is working closely with Continental Airlines and other airline partners to rebook ticketed passengers both to Houston and those connecting over Houston. Those ticketed passengers will be personally contacted by Cayman Airways Reservations.

In addition, Cayman Airways is establishing interlining agreements with Continental Airlines to allow competitive through fares for travel continuing via Grand Cayman to the Sister Islands using Cayman Airways or Cayman Airways Express. This way, passengers traveling from Houston gateways and continuing to the Sister Islands will continue to have seamless ticketing.

As the National Flag Carrier of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways? schedule includes non-stop Boeing 737 jet service between Chicago, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, New York and Grand Cayman, and jet service to Cayman Brac and Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica and Havana, Cuba. Cayman Airways also operates frequent daily turbo-prop services via Cayman Airways Express between the three Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. For additional information, contact your travel agent or Cayman Airways at 1-800-4-CAYMAN. In the Cayman Islands please call 345-949-2311.
