We are traveling for the first time to GC in May. Anyone connect through IAH? I've never traveled to that airport nor been through customs there.

Hi Barb, I live near Houston and IAH is one of the smoothest running airports I've ever experienced. Of course I am either leaving or arriving, never "passing thru" so maybe someone who has experience there can help but I've never had a problem traveling out of IAH in the 26 years we've lived here

Hi Barb,

I have connected in Houston and it is really easy. You might have a long walk between gates but thats about it.

Good luck

You will only have to deal with Customs and Immigration when you enter the Cayman Islands......then, vice versa, on the way home to the U.S., you will need to clear the U.S. Customs and Immigration at the first U.S. airport that your plane stops. In other words, if, on your way home, you are connecting in Houston and going on to somewhere else, you would go through U.S. Customs in Houston. On the way down to Cayman, you wouldn't go through Customs until you land in Cayman, even if you have a connection in Houston.

By the way, when you leave on an international flight from the U.S. they will want to see your passport before they allow you to leave the country (so that you'll be able to get back in Smile ).

Thanks that clears up a lot...I wish I had found this forum before I booked my flight! I was under the impression we'd have to clear customs before leaving the US at our connection (why I thougth that I have no idea)- :-) At least next trip I won't be such a novice traveler!

Silly question, but I assume that you are flying Cayman Airlines to GC? If not what airlines fly out on Houston to GC.

It's me, Barb. Somehow I went to change some things on my profile and I believe I mistyped my new email and have no idea where my info went so I created another account under 'Breezes'.

We'll be traveling with Continental Airlines to GCM. They had the cheapest price when I went to book, now US Air is less. :-( Live and learn!

I saw where CO had some issues landing in IAH this week! EEEK!

Continental has a non-stop from Houston IAH to GC. Most weeks it flys there on wed. and also has a flight from GC back to IAH on monday. These are the flights we use but you have to check Continentals shedule because for some reason not all weeks go by this schedule

We are flying on Continental. We are coming down on a Monday, and leaving the following Monday. I don't care if they cancel our flight on the way home. Just not on the way there!!!!

Im flying to GC on Continental through Houston there and back on a Sunday. The Houston airport wasnt a problem but the Texas unpredictable weather was on our return trip last year. Diverted twice to other airports, had to sit on a tarmack in San Antonio after landing and before take off, almost hit by a small aircraft coming into Austin...the pilot came on the intercom when we finally landed in Houston 6-7 hours after originally scheduled saying "in 20 years of flying Ive never had a night like tonight and will be glad and grateful to get home tonight." The upside and downside was that I was travelling alone with my 3 year old and 10 month old so that I was so distracted with them that although it was probably my worst travelling experience I wasnt as nervous as I couldve been. BUT..clearly not bad enough to not want to go back and do the same thing again this year.
