We have often thought about doing this while on the island and have never spoken to anyone who has tried it.

So...questions are:

There seem to be a couple different places that offer this service. Is one better than the other?

Size of horses. With two 6' 4" sons coming with us, we'd need to make sure that they doesn't end up on a cob horse with their feet dragging! Are the horses generally of small size, or a good size for a tall family.

If I remember correctly there were night rides or day rides. Is one preferable over the other and why?

Any help or direction we could get on this would be appreciated.

Very Happy

This is one of the all time best must-do activities on the island. Swimming in the warm tropical water on horseback is the experience of a lifetime. I would put this way at the very top of everyone's must-do list, right up there with Stingray City!

They have an easy mounting ladder and lots of friendly people to get you started and make you comfortable. Even if you've never rode a horse before they are very patient and helpful and will have you on your way in no time. The horses are extremely tame and friendly - and very well cared for - pampered. Very Happy

You start off on a beautiful nature trail that leads directly to the beach.

Riding along this pristine stretch of beach is one of the most scenic areas of the whole island. There are no boats or jet skis or people - Just your small group and your horses.

There are some cool shady rest spots along the way.

After riding for a while in the sun they stop and take off the saddles and you ride bareback into the sea. Swimming on a horse is one of the most beautiful sensations you will ever experience. These gentle giants move gracefully through the sea with you on their back. Soothing and refreshing it is an experience unlike any other. This alone makes this a true must do experience.

Those horses are not standing up!

After the swim you ride back along the beach and through the nature trails, back to the farm.

The farm is a virtual nature park with lots of animals, baby chickens, deer, iguanas and beautiful flowers.

This is an experience not to be missed and unlike anything I have seen anywhere else in the world. Do not miss this unique opportunity, which will leave you with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

You will find a coupon for Pampered Ponies in Activity Guide. If you want to make advance reservations you can email Lori at:

ponies@candw.ky

Be sure to mention the Activity Guide discount. Wink

Notes:

1. Minimum age for swimming the horses is 8 years old.

2. Maximum weight for riding the horses is 240lbs.

You definitely should. Swimming horses is something you don't do every day.

You better not let Celine see your avatar though, she may just change her mind about diving! Laughing

But Joe,

He's such a friendly little hammerhead. Who could be scared of him? Wink

We had horses for many years, loved them. Never rode one on a beach or in the water however. We'll likely either do this or that 2 man sub thing.

Finally less than two months til we head out. We just got another 4 inches of snow...darn it!

He is cute, actually - for a deadly man-eating shark. Laughing

You haven't rode 'till you've taken a sunset ride along a white sand beach. You can feel the romance in the air as you canter along in total solitude. Swimming in the sea atop a beautiful stallion is an experience like no other. I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone who likes horses and craves excitement.

I wouldn't want to have to chose between that or the sub. Although, since you dive you will be seeing plenty of the ocean. A horseback ride might be a nice distraction.

Two months will pass before you know it. In the mean time, keep coming here. This is the next best thing (or at least that is what I am hoping it will be). Very Happy

When you say "SWIM" the horses, do you really mean that you sit on the horse while it swims around in the ocean? I never heard of anything like that. If that is the case, I have got to try this one. Exclamation

Me and the Mrs. have used Pampered Ponies a couple of times, we found them in the Activity Guide (little plug for you Joe Very Happy). They really do let you "swim" the horses. Go on the beach ride and there is a spot where you can ride in on the horses and when it gets deep, they start swimming. It was an incredible experience for us and we do it every trip now.

PS... You should NOT use ************ We heard that they mistreat their horses, starve them and abuse them. We saw their horses one time we went with them and they looked kind of sickly. That would explain it.

Sorry, Joe I totally understand. It just made me sick when I heard how they were treating their horses.

No Problem. And you can rest assured that you will never see them mentioned in our magazine. Wink

This sounds like a lot of fun. It gets hot there so a refreshing swim would be good for me AND the horse. Will give this a try next trip. Very Happy
