I hope this doesn't conflict with the TOS...I thought I read somewhere that there are some lighthouses on the east end and you can walk up one and see a great view. Does this sound familiar to anyone and do you know if they're open all the time and if there is a fee? TIA for any info Smile

Since it's a public park run by The National Trust for the Cayman Islands, I don't think there's any TOS issues here.

There is an "East End Lighthouse Park". I have never been there, but it's on the Morritt's side of the village of East End on the inland side of the road.

Excellent - thanks! We planned to drive back the long way 'round the East End after our visit to Rum Point anyway. I'll report back and let you know if we found it and how it was Smile

toos,

If you do this before the 10th, will you let us know how it is? I love lighthouses too. I've never heard of this spot until you mentioned it. Thanks. handshake

Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but we went here...

We thought "oh cool - a lighthouse. This will be fun to see and take pictures from etc." Not quite what we expected.

Here is the climb up...

here is the view from the top...

No "real" lighthouse to speak of, but there were several of those historical fact plaques with some really neat info. It's a nice 10 minute stop, but i(f we are talking about the same thing) its not what you think it is.

Aha...hmmmm...yep, I was picturing an actual lighthouse that we'd walk up on the inside and look out. Thanks for posting the pretty pictures though! We'll still be driving by anyway so will probably stop for a looksee. Knees, I don't think we'll be going there till Friday but if we take the laptop and find some remarkable actual lighthouses I'll try to remember to sign on and let ya know Smile Thanks everyone!

As far as I know, the closest you'll find to a traditional looking lighthouse is the restaurant of the same name (very near the park).

There are little lighthouses on the eastern side of both of the sister islands I think. We took pictures of the one on top of Cayman Brac when we went on a day trip over there. See my 2005 trip report for those pictures.

I am a lighthouse collector and was hoping to get pictures, perhaps some from a boat too shooting at the sister islands, but we did not have time on that trip. I think I've seen on older maps about a lighthouse in the East End district on Grand Cayman, but it has been gone a long time. Must have been at the marker you both have mentioned.
