Hi Everyone,

What a wonderfully informative website. I'm a newbie and this is my first post. My husband and I are going to be in the Grand Caymans for a short period of time at the end of January. I'm trying to figure out what would would be the most fun of the three activities listed above.

I didn't see much info in this website about the Atlantis Submarine Ride, however I know it's pricey because I saw their website (it's $79 per person). If it's really fun then it would help justify the cost.

Also, we're staying at the Ritz Carlton (a free hotel stay which is nice), so if anyone happens to know which of the three activities is close or somewhat close to hotel, that would help too.

Thanks for your help in narrowing it down! Smile

Happy & Safe Travels,

Erika

I did the Atlantis submarine when I was in the cayman's last spring. To be honest I was not impressed with it. We got the resident discount so it wasn't the full price. We basicaly went down, looked at coral, saw a turtle and a few fish, went by the mermaid and then came up. I think you might get more out of snorkeling or maybe one of the resort diving courses.

Welcome to the forum zenmeister Smile ,

Thank you for your nice words.......glad you found us and that you've found some useful information.

Well, as far as proximity to you at the Ritz, the submarine ride would be the closest.....about 15 or 20 minutes drive into Georgetown. Pedro's Castle is on the South Side, so that's a bit farther....then, the Botanical Gardens would be the farthest away, since it's located right smack in the middle of the island, mid-way between the South and North side. Have you taken a look at the maps on this site? That might help..... You probably know that the Ritz is located right smack in the middle of 7 Mile Beach, so that will give you some idea of where things are, once you look at the map.

Now.....I've taken the submarine ride a few times, but not for many years. I really enjoyed it and thought it was very well done. It's especially ideal for non-divers and/or non-snorkelers who might not otherwise get to see the wonders of the deep that Cayman is so famous for. It goes down 100 feet along part of the Cayman wall, so you would get to see lots of coral and sea life.

Pedro's Castle is nice, too. It doesn't take too long to go through it, but I would highly recommend taking the time to see the multi-media presentation in their theater. It's very well done and it gives a great insight into the history of the island.

I haven't been to the Botanical Garden since the year it opened Embarassed , and I know it's changed immensely since then. Many people really enjoy it, but I hear it can get very hot and it's advised that you go early in the day (for that reason).

Don't know if that's helped at all, but hope it has.

Char
