We were in the caymans on a cruise and they tried to sell us one of those day passes. No way we were paying $60 to go sit on a beach. Those prices didnt include drinks of food either! We walked about 10 minutes to Comfort Suites and spent the day there FOR FREE. Thats right FREE. They did not charge us one red cent to use the pool or beach or umbrellas or anything. What you do is go around the back to a pool bar they have there called STINGERS. You go in there and order a drink and they let you do anything you want. They even had a ping pong table! Smarten up people! You do not have to PAY to use a beach or a pool!!!

OK we get it, you walked right up and spent the day there... You are smarter than a lot of cruise passengers who prefer to be a legitimate customer, instead of sneaking around.

It is not "sneaking around" to go to a resort that is cruise-ship friendly. Stingers at Comfort Suites welcomes cruise ship passengers so long as they can handle the load.

Surprisingly, almost 90% of cruise passengers do not check ahead of time so they do not know these types of services are available to them for free. Only the shrewd 10% or so who research ahead of time find that they can have a non crowded beach with good snorkeling and a bar, shade, chair, restaurant, etc. all for free. Or I should say for the cost of a few drinks and maybe a meal. Although, even if you pay for a day pass you are still charged extra for food and drink. Why pay for something when you can have it for free?

I just checked out Comfort Suites website and it said that the resort would reopen in March after extensive renovations due to Hurricane Ivan. Does anyone know if the resort would be open for a day visit. We will be arriving in Grand Cayman on a Saturday but there are very few other ships in port that day so I was hoping to find a nice quiet place for snorkeling, drinks and a bite to eat. We had considered doing the day pass to Spanish Reef Resort but after reading this we are re-thinking our strategy.

We are thrilled to be returning to GC and really want to spread our tourist dollars to where they may be needed most.

Thanks!

Hi kapeppy - Welcome to the forum. Comfort Suites is still remodeling the hotel, but their pool bar Stingers is open. They are located in back of the hotel and have a pool, beach, bar, restaurant and ping pong table. The waitresses there are all great looking too!

At Comfort Suites or the Wharf? No way will they hassle you. You don't even have to buy lunch. It would be nice to buy a drink or two, but you don't have to. They will be happy to have you come and enjoy their facilities.

It's only about a mile walk along the beach from the dock. If you need a taxi, they are avaliable right there at the dock.

We are only there for one day and just want to kick back on a beach and do some snorkeling. We will have our own equipment. Which place is better and closer to the cruise ship dock?

Why not both? Comfort Suites is a little farther, but they have a pool. There are many nice places along the beach. You can walk to the Wharf in about 10 minutes and start there. Then just keep walking along the beach stopping everywhere that looks nice and not crowded. You won't see Comfort Suites from the beach, but when you get to the Marriott, go back about 20 yards and walk towards the road. You will find a pool bar called Stingers. Mention Activity Guide wherever you go and ask for a discount if you spend the whole day at any one place. Wink

Hope this is still the case. Will be there 9 Nov. 2006 and the Stingers deal sounds absolutely great after getting off ship. Great boards and information. Keep up the good work!
