We have a brand new activity on the island, offered by Sea Trek. Now anyone can take the plunge and explore the beauty of the underwater world with record ease. After a 5 minute briefing, participants don helmets and descend a ladder to an approximate 20 foot depth. There you will be guided through a scenic area of beautiful reef by highly experienced guides. They keep a watchful eye on you as you walk along a designated area and take in all the underwater scenery along the way.

If you can walk and breathe, you can do this! You can wear glasses, chew gum, keep your makeup fresh and you don't even get your hair wet!

Because it's so easy and the depths are relatively shallow, even children over 7 years old and people who are not able swim can now experience the beauty of the underwater world. This is also perfect for anyone with limited time, where an introductory SCUBA dive is not possible. There are virtually no encumbrances as with other devices, such as SNUBA. You simply put on the hat and walk around. It really is that simple. Very Happy

Families can now dive together as certified divers can tag along with their children or parents using conventional SCUBA gear.

The vast beauty, thrills and excitement of the underwater world is now available to a much broader field of participants. And nowhere better to give it a try than the bio-diverse clear calm waters of the Cayman Islands.

Duration: 1 to 1.5 Hours

Net Prices:

US $85.00 per person

US $75.00 per person for groups of 4 to 7

US $65.00 per person for groups of 8 or more

?Minimum age is 8 years old.

Joe, this is the coolest thing I have ever seen! This would make it alot of fun for family members that dont dive and might just change their minds about wanting to dive! They could see what we see and why we do what we do!

When I first saw it, it looked like something out of a science fiction movie! It definitely inaugurates the beauty of the underwater world to a much broader range of individuals. Hopefully, it will facilitate a greater empirical understanding and appreciation of the intricate and delicate nature of marine biology to a much broader range of individuals, particularly at a younger age.

lesclaypool - One of the nice things about the Sea Trek is that your non-diving sister could do it while you and Mrs. lesclaypool tagged along using conventional SCUBA gear. Think of the fun you could all have down there, hanging upside down and swimming between her legs while she was walking comfortable along on the bottom. :-D

Joe,

Did I read the initial post right that the duration is 1-1.5 hours? I understand the max depth is 20' but wasn't sure how the air supply works. Thought I saw a hose, presumably an air feedfrom the suface, connected to the headset. Would love to get my non-scuba diving wife to try while I dive, but I'm unclear. Looks like a blast.

As for your observation that this may provide non-divers with a greater appreciation of the u/w world we divers love and respect, you may be right. Several years ago in Cancun, our hotel housekeeper when coming in for nightly turndown service would set the TV to a channel showing filmed footage of the reefs with tranquil classical music playing as a soundrack... we both loved it and it prompted my wife to comment that watching it gave her an appreciation of passion for diving.... Unfortunately, not as much as I hoped since I'm still trying to convince her to get certified... Rolling Eyes

jpep - The duration includes the time to get you from the beach, take you out to the platform, put on the helmet, get in the water, etc. I think you are actually underwater for about 45 minutes.

Air is surface supplied directly to the helmet so you could stay down indefinitely. They arrange it all in such a way that you don't even know you are attached and it is impossible for the hose to become ensnared in anything.

This might be a good way to introduce your wife the beauty of the sea without the complication of an introductory dive. Once she's hooked, drag her right on over to Eden Rock. :-D
