Hello all, we are first time visitors to Grand Cayman, We are comin in via Cruise Ship on Mar 13th On Norwegian Majesty. There are six of us my wife and I, my daughter, my son-in-law who has to use canadian crutches to get around, and my grandsons 8&9 yrs old. I am looking for specific recommendations from you nice folks as I know from reading some of the other posts that you are very gracious in helping "newbies" with the facts. So I will give you the "wants" and maybe you can tell me the best way to go with the time that our itinery says we have. We are supposed to be in Grand Cayman From 7a to 3p (which means I actually have 8am to 2 pm to play with. I know that we want to get a 4 hr. (half day) jet ski rental (will use Moore Marine for this) we also want to take a trip to Hell to mail (wish you were here) post cards to friends. What I really need help with is logistics. I do not know exactly where we will tender. Or the most efficient way to Hell, and back to Moore Marine. And most importantly a Good semi uncrowded beach area in which to use the jetski with 1 family member while the others can play in the sand snorkel ect. So any advise would be most greatfully appreciated. oh yeah My wife doesn't swim at all so when i say snorkeling I really mean wading to her calf or just sitting in the shallows. thanks again. Confused

Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you're getting excited for your upcoming visit to Grand Cayman!

As for logistics...let me see what I can figure out for you. Keep in mind I'm thinking outloud a bit.

I'm assuming you are planning to pick up the wave runner at the Lobster Pot location in Georgetown. Now...what I don't know is how you are going to get the group of you from the Lobster Pot to a semi-uncrowded beach. That is the tricky part, they would have to take a taxi or rent a car. Moore Marine would probably be able to direct you on what beach you could go to, but you need to talk with them. There are certain restrictions with wave runners in Cayman...you have to be out so far because of snorkeling/diving. You also have to watch out for bringing the wave runner to shore with all of the coral & iron shore.

As for Hell, you could grab a taxi to Hell or, like previously stated, rent a car. I am not sure what the cab fare for six people from Georgetown to Hell. I'm assuming you will be docking/tendering in Georgetown.

You might be better off (less of a headache) to go to Hell (pardon how that sounds Wink ) by taxi and then have them drop you at Royal Palms on Seven Mile Beach. They have wave runners for hire there or you might consider parasailing - a few bangs for your buck. It is easy entry into the ocean and there is some decent snorkeling just down the beach. They also have restrooms and a great lunch menu and beach bar. Plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. It can get crowded if there are several ships in port.

I hope that someone else will chime in with some other options that I'm not thinking about.

:palm:

Welcome, My wife & I have been to the caymans 3 times. Our first time was off a cruise ship also. My sug. is that if all you are going to hell for is to mail postcards, that will take a big chunk of your time on the island, unless you are going to visit other sites on that side of the island, such as the turtle farm, stingray city etc. Our last cruise in sept.'06, we hitched a ride on a bus & they took us to our condo that is located near Royal Palms. 2$ per person. We just walked up & down the beach & snorkeled at diff. points. If you are wanting to jet ski for half day, then I would sug. staying around this area. On the way back to the ship you can stop in shopping dist. Trust me 6 or 7 hours will fly by once your off ship, plus add time it will take for tender back to ship. Have a Great Time & Enjoy!!! P.S. Search this site extensively, thousand of great sug. & ideas. Also the web cam on this site shows you the ships in port just to give you an idea of where you are (about a 45min. walk, 10 min. taxi)
