Wanted to know if there is a place that you can go to pier or shore fish and who could accommodate us with fishing gear to do this

I might be wrong here, but I believe shore fishing is limited to Caymanians only. You have to be on a boat or at least wading to fish. I am an avid fisherman, but never did so on vacation there. You'd be better off renting snorkel equipment and see the fish in their own habitat. The only sport fish near shore would be tarpon, and since they hang around docks, most Caymanians would likely object to you injuring their "family" of tarpon. I never saw any evidence of rental fishing equipment because of the limitations on non-caymanians. As a fisherman, part of the thrill is wondering what's "down there" below the surface. This is your chance to see.

There is a brochure of Marine Park Regulations & Marine Conservation Laws from the Cayman Islands Department of the Environment out in Internet land. It says that there is no license necessary for catch and release fishing. You could fish from the shore. My husband has tried with no luck at all.

There is a short thread about renting gear here CLICK HERE It looks pretty pricey. My husband hasn't tried from shore all that much, but I think he would rather pack a rod and save the money to go out with a guide and bring home some dinner. If you want to keep your fish you will need to book an excursion with someone.

Thanks for all the info, we plan on snorkeling it will be first for me. I am so excited can't wait to be there. Was there once with a cruise about a year and a half ago and have done nothing but wish to be there again. Something very special about that island.

Actually, it is totally permissible for anyone to fish from shore, no license needed, even in the Marine Park. My husband has done this for many, many years. It is true, though, unless you have a Caymanian fishing license, it is all catch and release.

My husband is pretty sure that there really isn't anyplace to rent fishing gear to go off on your own fishing from shore.....he has always brought his own. He has mostly gone bonefishing in the flats up at the Barkers or on the South Side......a little luck, but not much. He doesn't even bother going out anymore.......

No pier fishing that we know of.

I love getting all this info. My son is 9, it would be catch and release and more into casting than anything else.
