Hello to All,
Sorry as I intended to reply to this thread long ago but I ended up bustling out of Cayman to avoid Hurricane Dean and have since been trying to get a new life started. Needless to say, my planned farewells did not happen, and things felt a little unfinished from my standpoint!
Yes, Cayman Kayaks has been sold to Tom and we were very happy to give him first opportunity to purchase it. He had been guiding with us for the past year, enjoys the sea (dives, surfs, sails, wakeboards), is a young Caymanian, and truly loves what he does. He is a natural at it in many aspects. I left him a blueprint to follow and he seems to be handling it very well. Many of my friends have reported in to me that they have enjoyed tours with him since I departed. More testament to the old adage that 'we can all be replaced!'
I have to say a big thank-you to the friends and guests I met during my 20 months with Cayman Kayaks, and to Joe and his staff for their kind work. I met more people in those 20 months than I had in my first 5 years on the island combined- it was great.
I miss the islands dearly, but as in many cases like this, I miss the people, the personalities, the friends. I also miss the mangroves, the critters, and especially the young turtles that would make me smile every time I saw them.
I hope to return one day, in a different capacity, but only time will tell. Enjoy these magnificent islands and say hi to Tom for me if you are kayaking with him.
Kind regards,
Bob Dyrda |
