Hello all! Fairly new to this board, but I have been reading a lot. A LOT.

Anyway, I was sold on the Cayman Kayaks tour from the reviews here. I emailed Bob last night only to discover that they are under new ownership. Has anyone used them since the change of hands?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Gee--I'm sorry to hear that--I really liked Bob

Joe--do you know anything about this? Are they going to be running as usual? I know that Bob posted a month or so ago to say that they were also going to be renting Kayaks by the week, or 3 days, and I was really excited about that and told the family that I would probably rent one. Wonder if they will still be doing that.

Shelly :-)

I emailed Cayman Kayaks and Bob said that he was caught up in the term limits and his lead guide,Tom Watling was taking over the business and it would be run as it has in the past.

Sorry to see Bob go

Hello to All,

Sorry as I intended to reply to this thread long ago but I ended up bustling out of Cayman to avoid Hurricane Dean and have since been trying to get a new life started. Needless to say, my planned farewells did not happen, and things felt a little unfinished from my standpoint!

Yes, Cayman Kayaks has been sold to Tom and we were very happy to give him first opportunity to purchase it. He had been guiding with us for the past year, enjoys the sea (dives, surfs, sails, wakeboards), is a young Caymanian, and truly loves what he does. He is a natural at it in many aspects. I left him a blueprint to follow and he seems to be handling it very well. Many of my friends have reported in to me that they have enjoyed tours with him since I departed. More testament to the old adage that 'we can all be replaced!'

I have to say a big thank-you to the friends and guests I met during my 20 months with Cayman Kayaks, and to Joe and his staff for their kind work. I met more people in those 20 months than I had in my first 5 years on the island combined- it was great.

I miss the islands dearly, but as in many cases like this, I miss the people, the personalities, the friends. I also miss the mangroves, the critters, and especially the young turtles that would make me smile every time I saw them.

I hope to return one day, in a different capacity, but only time will tell. Enjoy these magnificent islands and say hi to Tom for me if you are kayaking with him.

Kind regards,

Bob Dyrda

Good Luck to you Bob!!! We had a great time kayaking with you and hope you find something else that you enjoy doing or another place that is as wonderful as GC.

We went on a kayk tour with Tom a couple of months ago, just after he took over the business. He was helpful, patient and most of all knowledgeable. The only problem I had was underestimating how hard it would be to paddle the kayak. I am very slight and was not much help to my husband. Tom came back for us when we were way behind the group and towed us so we could catch up. He paddled with our kayak hitched to his with ease and not a word of complaint. He did a great job.
