Welcome to the forum, delre10 Smile ,

I saw your other post from yesterday and I wasn't sure how to answer it....sorry that no one has, yet. From your previous post it sounds like you and your girlfriend will be traveling all around the Caribbean, stopping at different islands.....is that correct? Are you thinking of staying for an extended time.......or just a week or two.....in a hotel or condo, like a typical tourist would be, or hoping to find some really inexpensive lodging somewhere?

I guess the simplest answer to give you is that yes, the Cayman Islands are an expensive destination, especiallly in the high season, from Dec. 15th to April 15th. After that, prices are cut considerably, but it will still be expensive.

Spend some time reading through all the different posts and then try to come up with some more specific questions for us........there are a few bargains here and there that can be found, but basically, it is an expensive place. Liquor is especially expensive.

You also asked about nightlife. Not sure what you're looking for there, but sure, there's always something to do.....always some fun places to hang out and dance and listen to music.

Good luck with your decisions,

Char

From what I've read, and correct me if I'm wrong, the U.S. dollar is worth 80 cents on GC. Looks like I'll have to start hoarding a little more money.

Hello knees! wave

Last I knew 1.25 US is = to 1.00 CI, booze is quite expensive, make sure you bring the limit with you 1 case beer, or 4 bottle wine, or 1 liter of booze. Everything pretty much is imported there which makes things more expensive than in the US. If you do buy liquor there make sure to use the coupons in the CAG coupon section from Blackbeards! Smile

Eating out can total up to a hefty bill if you plan on dining out every night. The coupons in the guide can help you plan some of your expenses and even get you a discount!! band UpsideDown sun

Hi Raven.

Thanks for the information...........now I know my dollar is worth a nickel less than I thought. Wink Not sure where we're staying. I'm looking at 10 days right now from April 20-April 30. Still awaiting quotes from the board as far as lodging.

Where are you staying?

I clicked on the guide and it locked my computer up. Confused

I will try it again. I understand you can pick one of these up at the airport but it I would love to glance through it soon.

Love your little waving emoticon. I don't see it here though. palm

Actually, knees......you and Raven are both right about the money......$1.25US being equal to $1.00CI is the same thing as $1.00 US being equal to $.80 CI. (Maybe you knew that.....if so....sorry!)

One thing in your favor, knees......the high season ends after April 15th, so you'll probably see a lot of savings on the island at that time, especially in the cost of housing! That also might explain why you're having trouble finding a non-stop flight out of O'Hare....

Raven's right about a CAG discount coupon from Blackbeard's, but there's also one from Big Daddy's. The great thing is that I just bring the guide in with me at Big Daddy's and show them the coupon. I always ask if they want me to tear it out and they just say...."naw.....don't do that....just use it again!". So, I do. Over and over and over and over again Embarassed .

Too bad you can't open the on-line CAG Confused . It is kind of a big pdf file, what with all the pictures......I guess try closing some of the applications on your computer and see if that helps. Do you have the latest verson of Acrobat Reader installed?

Char,

Oh, CI, right! Duh! Forgot where he was from.

I have the latest Adobe and I tried again and it froze my computer up. I wonder if I can write to the Cayman tourism site and have them send me a copy with other information. I threw everything away from last year, since we were not able to go and knew it would be outdated. I would love to have a copy of the magazine before I arrive. I'm sure it's full of a lot of great information.

I'm looking at leaving around the 20th of April and was actually playing with late April last night.

I certainly need to learn to navigate around this board. I did not see the site for resort information until I got a pm that my question had been moved.

Can't wait to visit GC, with the sand, the sun, and a drink in my hand. Smile

Hello Again Knees!

My trip countdown thingy is enabled and shows where and when I will be there. I spent a lot of time researching my options and decided they best suited my needs, a full kitchen and rental car included for the whole stay doesn't hurt, and 7 days diving, will even save me more money if I use the Kitchen facilities for Breakfast and an occasional dinner. dance1

Did you click on the link I created under my last message? Should have taken you right there???? Confused Not sure why your machine locked up. computerbash There is also a magazine tab at the top of the page, hopefully one of them will let you see the guide.

As far as the little waving dude....he is hiding with a bunch of others...click on view more emoticons and the window will open, I have a hard time finding him sometimes computer2 ...hehehehe they are not always in the same order.

Hope all goes well! sun

Try this (I'll assume you're using a pc). Right click on the "click here" link and select Save Target As, make sure the "close this dialog..." box is NOT checked, then hit "Open" once it's downloaded. It's nearly 14 meg, so it might not have technically locked up your computer, it may have just been taking a Loooong time to download.

I just wanted to add an idea that was helpful to us when paying with cash.

It's not that hard to figure out what something cost since the exchange rate isn't so far apart like pesos and dollars, for instance.

We just thought in multiples of 8

$10 US = $8 CI, $20 US = $16 CI,

$30 US = $24 CI, $40 US = $32 CI etc....

This made cents Wink to us since we were handing over mainly US 10s and 20s.

Would it make it easier to go to local bank & exchange u.s. dollors for cayman money? would this not take the confusion out about exchange rate? Confused Besides there money is pretty cool looking. We had a few dollors left over on are last vacation and framed them with some pics. of the island. Palm

If I remember correctly even if you pay with US dollars you get CI back in change, I still have some in a box.......long live the queen!! spin Personally speaking, since the U.S. dollar is weaker than the CI. I do not want loose more with the transfer bank fee especially if the stores there all take US dollars which if I remember correctly was never a issue and are going to give me back Cayman dollars in change without a fee. Smile

Please correct me if I am wrong....
