Is there a problem with credit cards since the storm ? I heard that some places do not have phone lines yet.

What about travelers checks ? I wouldn't think they would be a problem and never were before ? Cheers

When we were there in March we did not have problems with credit cards. We used cash (not Travelers cheques) and everything was fine. We've had Travelers cheques in the past and the past few visits haven't bothered with them.

Now...if something were to happen...I'm sure we'd wish we had the Travelers cheques. Embarassed

Thanks for the reply.

There have been a few years that we took cash. I guess reading some of the degative stories on other sites makes me think think twice.

Probaly need to stay away from those sites and stay here

We took cash the last 3 years, but we primarily stayed in the SMB & Georgetown area. They were shorter trips so we just stayed on the beach and shopped one day.

You aren't the only one who left the other sites and came here...I think most of us did and we haven't looked back once! Welcome to the board and I look forward to more posts from you! Smile

Hi jackpij - Welcome to the storm. You should not have any problems with credit cards but having a little cash or traveler check backup is always a good idea.

I never use travelers checks either. For most vacations, my wife and I usually bring a couple thousand in cash and just charge everything else. Our credit card statements after a vacation look like the national debt! rolllaugh

Remember that you get a better exchange rate ( $.82 vs. $.80) if you get cash from an ATM rather than using US currency.

Yes, but you will pay a cash advance fee which is way more than .2% if you use a credit card. Wink

Joe, I'm talking about a debit card which takes cash directly out of my US checking account. Have used it all over the world, and it is still the best way to exchange currancies.

That's what I thought, but since this topic is titled "Credit" cards I just didn't want anyone to be confused. Wink

Cheers

Our credit card is much of the same:

Blackbeards, stingers bar, toss in a couple of dive shops here and there, and then the big one ....ANDY'S RENT A CAR. We have been staying 3 weeks the past few years and that last one hurts !!!!!! :o

OK, OK, there's also some restaurants, a batch of diving and some other stuff on the card, but no car. Luckily, where we stay is so centrally located, we don't need one, which leaves more drinking options as well.... drinking
