Hi everyone, great message board.

I have reward points that I can use at either of the Marriotts. Can anyone give me advice on which one would be better. It's just me and my husband and we plan to stay for a week in September.

I have a dumb question, looking at the map, is the Marriot no longer open on the Ocean Side?

Looking for a 2-night stay in SMB in addtion to our 7-night on the eastside and we LOVE to snorkel - so I thought this might be the place to stay. But I cant drown if there's no water... water

L.A.S.T. - There is no such thing as a stupid question here. Very Happy

The Marriott is directly on the beach with an artificial reef very close to shore, which is very good for snorkeling. Wink

If you decide to stay there, be sure to use our for the best rates.

Hi L.A.S.T.

I think you may have been wondering about the Marriott Courtyard, which is correctly shown on the rendering, to be across the street from Seven Mile Beach. That is the Marriott shown in this thread. There is another Marriott further south on West Bay Road on the "beach side" of the road. You can see more info about that one by CLICKING HERE. and also IN THIS THREAD,

Both properties have very nice beach facilities. If I can find the beachside pictures for the Courtyard Marriott I will put a link to them here as well...Found a recent trip report from someone staying at the Courtyard Marriott. Very good pictures. My family stayed there in 2002. HEREis a link to that trip report. Wink

Thank you Gardengirl, yep that was what I was wondering about. Someone a different forum said that the beach side of Courtyard Marriot was not open - and I thought "beachside" and what the ?? Rolling Eyes This is confusing me help Is there some kind of crosswalk to the beach - is it very far? Is the buidling partially closed still?

I also want to go the pirate's party but I see that is only at the Westin now, but I dont have to stay at the same place - just would make it easier. pirate

The pictures of the Courtyard Marriot here are soooo beautiful, Joe does awesome work, and every week there seems to be MORE pictures.

Hi L.A.S.T.,

Just want to be sure that you don't still have a question. Couldn't tell from your post if you are still wondering about which Marriott is which. Whatever you read on the other forum was probably really outdated.......they might have been referring to the Marriott Beach Resort, which is on the beach, as not being open. It did not re-open post-Ivan until last summer (2005). The other hotel, which is the Mariott Courtyard, and is across the street from the beach, was open quite soon post-Ivan. So, perhaps their information was from last spring or early summer. Not sure what they meant by the "beachside of the Mariott Courtyard".

Both hotels are fully open now.

Don't blame you for being confused Confused

Hi L.A.S.T. -

One more thing I'll add is that towards the bottom of the trip report (the PINK here link in my post above) there is a picture of the beach taken from the Courtyard Marriott Hotel and pictures of the beach close up to see too. Hope this helps. Let us know if you still have questions, ok? Wink

After reporting it to the "other" forum - they took the posting off it was so inaccurate! It's unfortunate that I - a guest - caught it instead of there staff that review each post before it submitted.

This is why MODERATORS are so good!! You know that 99+% of the information is accurate! I know some ppl feel that you see more positive than negative - but we WANT others to come and enjoy this beautiful place! If you research and plan ahead of time you are much more likely to enjoy your trip! Rather than get bogged down in the negative plan and prepare for the good! Palm rockbed Palm

So I would like to again thank everyone on this post for there time and efforts - I am sure when I finally get there I will love it thanks to all of the wonderful advice! typing

I have more of a general - which hotel to pick based on our desires - question that I will post elsewhere.

L.A.S.T.

L.A.S.T. - We have a lot of pictures now for both of those places in the Resort forum.

The main difference is Courtyard is more like a very upscale Holiday Inn, whereas Marriott Resort is a full-blown resort, one of the nicest on the island and possibly the very best resort value in the Cayman Islands. Wink

Hi L.A.S.T.,

The turtles are at the Marriott Resort... (not the Courtyard by Marriott)
