Should we bring our own snorkeling gear with us?

I am traveling with a family of 7. Three of us have our own snorkeling gear, I wanted to find out if we needed to rent gear of if there was some available at Treasure Island for use. I read some of the other resorts had gear available for guests to use or rental.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My own personal feeling is even if you don't bring your own fins, I'd always bring my own tube. I don't want something God knows who had in their mouths. I also prefer my own mask, but would use a rental if I had to.

My two cents.

I agree with snorkeler about the snorkel. In fact I just bought some online at a great price for our grandkids. The first time we went to Cayman, we did rent, but I think it was pretty cheap back then.

In the past, the rentals seemed to be pretty expensive to me. It doesn't cost that much for equipment....so I'd look into that. But if you're only going to be there a short time, maybe it wouldn't pay to buy your own stuff.

I would agree, too. Our owner kept gear stocked in the condo, but we didn't use it. We always take our own stuff, and you will definitely get it cheaper at home than you will in Cayman. If you rent for long enough you will spend more renting that you will buying at home. There are so many opportunities to jump in and see what's going on in the water!

Great advice everyone. I agree on the snorkels as well. I am in South Florida so I'll take everyone over to the mega discount dive shop before we leave and get our gear and be ready to roll.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

You're lucky to have a mega dive shop near by--diving is not too big in the chicago area--at least not where I live. We have a small dive shop near us and I think we bought masks there a long time ago--they are still alive and well.
