The Wharf is a very nice place to eat, and the view is great...but we found this place to have the best wait staff of any other place we went. There was a problem with our seating [we had reservations for a specific 'spot' and when we got there, the woman and man who were there before us decided to stay and nurse drinks through our reservation time to see the tarpon feed.

The staff were kind, quick and helpful in making sure we still had a very nice seat, and were well taken care of.

They have a dessert there [Napolean?] that is delicious!

Hi Joe

Good review for this place.

The open air dining are you on the beach or just overlooking it.

What is the dress code for the restaurants on the island, Suite and tie, pants and shirt?

I am referring to places like the Old House, Lobster Pot, Wharf and lighthouse.

Is there a restaurant that has good food where you are eating on the beach, I always look for a place to have one dinner where my feet are in the sand and watching the sunset?

Hi Joe Good review for this place.

Thank you! Very Happy

The open air dining are you on the beach or just overlooking it.

They offer seating right next to the beach. You can almost touch the water. Be sure to call for a reservation to get a seat directly by the sea. It is a good idea to not sit right next to the Tarpon Feeding Station. When they feed the fish, people will be coming to see and if you are sitting there it could interrupt your dining experience.

What is the dress code for the restaurants on the island, Suite and tie, pants and shirt?

Smart Casual for most places. Nice aloha kind of shirt and shorts are fine. No one wears suits and ties to go out to eat unless it is a special occasion. I wear long pants for places like GOH and Pappagallo, but it's not required.

I am referring to places like the Old House, Lobster Pot, Wharf and lighthouse.

It applies pretty much everywhere. Places like Cocont Joes you can even show up in your swimwear coverup and fit right in. You are on vacation, wear whatever makes you comfortable.

Is there a restaurant that has good food where you are eating on the beach, I always look for a place to have one dinner where my feet are in the sand and watching the sunset?

I ate at the Wharf and was not thrilled. Food was good but WAY too expensive. The restaurant looks better in the pictures than it is. Outside seating is on $8 cheap plastic chairs and equally cheap tables. Practical for sure, but kind of cheesy for such an expensive restaurant.

Service was fine, food was fine, price was not.

mjr241..........I've not yet had the pleasure of eating at the Wharf, but one thing crosses my mind straight away...........the chairs and tables outside would HAVE to be made of some material to withstand the occasional rain shower you're going to get and if they are the same for the inside dining (?) I imagine it would be to carry the theme throughout.

Do you think the price you paid for your meal may have made your more critical? I don't mean that in a mean way, just really curious, since as I said......I've not yet had the pleasure of dining there..............DO sincerely think........and this is just me..........I don't believe I would've even noticed what chairs and tables were used when I was looking at that view, in that place, with wonderful food, good service and my honey across from me.

dine

If you would, could you let me know what you and yours ordered.......could the drinks have put the price over the top.........this I also ask, because we usually purchase a cocktail before dinner, then a bottle of wine, and then after dinner drinks.

Thanks,

Celine

Celine, perhaps you are correct in your statement about me being somewhat too critical because I was so displeased with the price.

For sure, for both my wife and I, the Wharf did present the least amount of value for the dollar....but we are only two people. Please know that the food is definitely good and not too many restaurants are so beautifully situated overlooking the water. Live music and dancing provide a very nice ambience.....I was just expecting more for less, especially during happy hour. If I was to do it again, I would have gone to Hemmingways at the Hyatt instead, but who knows what I would have thought of that.

During my pre planning, I did see a review on the Wharf from someone that said it was very good but at $345 for dinner for 4, was too expensive. I thought of that when I left the restaurant and said to wife, that review was bang on.

mjr241.....whoops, sorry........I sent you a PM response before I saw that you had posted here. Sounds like you are more than fair and that's all anybody wants to hear.

When we are a party of two, with cocktails and bottle of wine, usually a seafood dinner, and after dinner drinks at a TOP NOTCH restaurant that price is not too far out of line......PLUS, of course, you're in Cayman. sun

mjr241 - This should have been posted under the Wharf Happy Hour thread so as not to give people the wrong impression. I had to read two other posts you made to put this all in perspective.

You went during Happy Hour yet paid for your appetizers. :? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of going for Happy Hour? I think an explaination of what Happy Hour is might be in order. A Happy Hour is typically an opportunity to sample some of the restaurant's food for free. Some will offer drink specials as well. This does not mean that food you order from the menu will be any less expensive than normal. It also does not necessarily imply that drinks are going to be any less expensive, unless "drink specials" are offered.

The Wharf offers unparralled beauty and atmosphere in one of the largest and most beautiful settings on the island, and the cost of maintaining such an elaborate operation is astronomical. Their overhead is comparable to Grand Old House and the prices will reflect that.

And I think they paid at least CI$9 for those weatherproof (necessary) chairs - That is about $18 Canadian. rolllaugh
