This is my first time to the Caymans, so I'm trying to get somewhat organized as to what to do, where to go, etc. (and, yes, Joe, of course I will be using the "Cayman Activity Guide" as my fun-in-the-sun bible.) I know everyone's opinions are different - it's what makes us so wonderful heart - so, if you have a moment please let me know your favorite restaurants in the following categories.

Of the restaurants that will be open by Apr. 23, what is the best for;

- local food

- seafood

- romance love (14 years and we're still such mushy fools)

- food to rave about

- casual

- cheap lunch (is there such a thing?)

Am I cheating by taking such advantage of ya'll? This is so much fun, I feel like I'm already there - other than the fact that I'm sitting in my little cube and have my usual concerns that my pager, cell phone, etc. are going to make my pants fall down at the most inopportune moment.

Amys,

The cheapest dinner is to take a picnic lunch [buy stuff at Fosters, they have a massive deli type section] out to Ivory Kai and walk around the shore looking at the sunset and starfish in the water. Secluded and beautiful...

We love it.

Amys,

My family does the picnic thing too, mainly for lunches because we don't want to leave where ever we're snorkling to get lunch.

We buy cheap styrofoam coolers at grocery store and pack sandwiches, fruit, deli stuff, lots of cold drinks and take off. dance1 dance1 dance1

I love Edoardo's for dinner. dine There are alot of new places I will try this year.

Thanks for the picnic idea! I think that would be a great thing for me (cheap & easy) to do.

My previous posting details our delight with Pappagallos. Can not go wrong.

We did however eat out pretty much every night and I must say that last night (just got back today), we strolled up West Bay with the intention of going to eat at Ragazzi, which we had heard was very good. However, just a few feet past the Ragazzi entrance is another restaurant which we were lured into because of the beautiful outdoor covered patio. Being such a beautiful night, we decided to eat there and that restaurant is called Deckers.

We both had an absolutely wonderful meal there and the food and service rivaled Pappagallo. For sure those two meals were without question above all others. So, if you see Deckers on your travels and it is a beautiful warm night, I would urge you to go in and have a nice meal. Full dinner with a couple of appetizers, a couple of main courses, drinks, some wine and a shared creme brulee for desert came to about $100 US which included the automatic 15% gratuity.

Celine - Edoardos is located in Coconut Place next to the Strand. You will find a map indicator in their ad to easily locate them on our SMB map. I need to do a full review of them with pictures when I have the time. The short version is they offer some of the most outstanding Italian cuisine on the island and have maintained an impeccable reputation for excellence for over 20 years. Be sure to book a full day ahead on weekends as they are extremely popular. I hate to list prices because they are so dependant on what you eat and drink. Some magazines assign those $ - $$$$$ icons to every restaurant based on an average meal. That is more difficult to do here with liquor prices being what they are it is not uncommon for your drink prices to exceed the cost of your meal! I think it's safe to say that their prices are comparable to Pappagallo. They just remodeled and offer a beautiful Italian/Caribbean motif. I would easily rank them among my top-10, particularly for people who appreciate fine Italian food.

Celine,

I can't believe you missed Edoardo's, especially when you were staying at the Westin. You MUST check it out. It is one of our most favorite restaurants and have made sure to visit at least once on each trip down. Excellent Italian food - like no other!!!

It's a shame you are staying on the East End - Edoardo's, The Wharf and Coconut Joe's are all GREAT!! Desginate a driver and make the trek to the west for those 3 for sure!! Don't forget the Lone Star, now that it's remodeled it is back to the good ole days!!!

Okay, that sounds good.

You'll lunch at Coconut Joe's, dinner at the Wharf the first trip in...

Then lunch at Lone Star, dinner at Edoardos the second trip in...

Happy shopping & snorkeling in between meals! Smile
