The Cracked Conch

A must–do dining adventure, where you will discover the warm friendly service and authentic cuisine of yesteryear, served in a fun and causal yet comfortable and dramatic modern seaside setting. Or as they say: “old-time Cayman fun in the 21st century”. Situated directly on the ocean, ideal for diving Turtle Reef with tank and gear rental on site. See coupons in Activity Guide for dive and food special discounts. Located in West Bay, Map 2 • Phone: 945-5217.

The latest incarnation of this monument to Cayman culture and charm has emerged within a masterful architecture of modern design. With the same loyal devotion to tradition and customer satisfaction that Suzy Soto established in 1981, the new owners have made a considerable financial investment in modernizing the facility with unsurpassed beauty and elegance. From the moment you walk across the stamped tiled flooring through thick wood/glass doors where your friendly greeter awaits, you will marvel at the inspiring synergy of past and present.

Their new indoor bar features an elaborate light and water display set behind a vast collection of local and imported liquors. With posh stuffed booth seating, imbedded lighting and mural walls, the room encapsulates an effervescent blend of culture and comfort.

Soto?s Room ? dedicated to founders Bob and Suzy, offers private seating for groups up to 30. Bob is famous for starting Cayman?s first dive company, while Suzy designed the Sir Turtle logo and pioneered the original Cracked Conch with her amazing local recipes, which now appear in her bestselling cookbook.

Multi-tier decks provide breathtaking ocean views, which are configured into indoor and/or outdoor seating areas, depending on weather conditions and customer preferences.

Downstairs you can dine directly upon the sea on their new extended deck, completely surrounded by water just inches away, providing a truly mesmerizing experience.

With the most extensive, delicious and authentic local food, your next order will likely become your new favorite dish! Menu items are extremely diverse ? especially local and sea food. Specialties include their world famous Cracked Conch and rich Conch Chowders, Paupiette of Snapper, Continental Turtle Soup and many spectacular desserts. Budget conscious diners can select from combo dishes and appetizers, starting as low as $8. On Sunday, they present their famous local?style brunch. Everything from Eggs Benedict to Turtle Stew all for one surprisingly low price makes this Sunday brunch one of Cayman?s most valued treasures.

This is the appetizer version (about $8) of their famous Cracked Conch, based on Suzy Soto's internationally famous traditional recipe. Seafood connoisseurs will notice this dish tastes somewhat like abalone, for those of you old enough to remember what abalone tastes like. If you could only eat one local dish during your entire stay in the Cayman Islands, this should be it!

Their delicious Conch Stew. The photo hardly does it justice.

Mouth watering dessert masterpieces, created by their dedicated pastry chef.

Their new Tiki Bar Macabuca is quickly becoming one of the most popular watering holes on the island. Locals and visitors from all walks of life mingle at this chic seaside venue. Every Monday, they alternate between live and dj performances, providing specials and complimentary bus service along Seven Mile Beach, making this one of the most popular evening spots on the island.

The entrance to one of the best shore diving locations on the island is right at the Cracked Conch, making it the perfect spot to dine and relax before and after your day or night shore dives.

This is a must?do dining adventure, where you will discover the warm friendly service and authentic cuisine of yesteryear, served in a fun and causal yet comfortable and dramatic modern seaside setting. Or as they say: ?old-time Cayman fun in the 21st century?.

sanderson - Reservations are not required because the Cracked Conch is so enormous and can seat over 300 people. However I would recommend making a reservation for their lower seaside deck, which being situated directly over the water provides the most dramatic and spectacular ocean views. Wink

Joe, Are they open for lunch during the week, or just brunch on Sunday?

We ate there tonight and it was fantastic. The Pink Snapper and Coconut Fried Shrimp was great. For dessert you have to go for their signature Cracked Conk Rum Cake and Coconut Ice Cream - hmmmm! Our waiter was very friendly and the view was fantastic at sun set.

Oh, and we did see a group of divers walk through the lower area and start their ascent in the cove right by the dining area just before dark.

Great! We'll be trekking to SMB (I'm staying in East End) at least once, so I figure Coconut Joe's for breakfast (my daughter is looking forward to the banana pancakes), and then we'll make our way up to West Bay for lunch after Scott metal detects his way all the way up SMB Rolling Eyes

Budget-conscious visitors can order combo plates and appetizers to experience local cuisine at its very best without putting a dent in their pocketbooks. My wife and I ordered their famous Cracked Conch appetizer, a delicious salad and one of the best desserts we?ve ever had. With their complementary bread and homemade spreads, it was more than enough food for the two of us and the whole meal cost less than $25 total.

You don't have to compromise the quality or diversity of your food to meet your budget requirements. Wink

ohmygosh.........I did NOT want to like the "new" Cracked Conch because we, and EVERYONE we'd taken there LOVED it, just exactly as it was, but those photos of the remodeled place........inside and out.......the food, and the room dedicated to the Soto'slook absolutely FANTASTIC!

We will definitely go next trip and can't wait to see the video as well! Thanks Joe.......I was heartbroken when it was down for remodeling and thought I was going to loose one of our favorite places.......not now!

YAHOO!

Sanderson, thanks for the email... we are staying on the East End, and have a rent a car, and wondered if this was also a family restaurant, with children from ages 9-13? It looks like the perfect place to have some fresh local seafood, and watch the sunset. We are also looking into going to a Luah, on Wed. night, at the Comfort Suites? Have you heard anything about that? thanks, balletjane
