First time to stay on SMB and wanted to know if there are any local shops that sell fresh seafood. Not sure what is caught locally and off shore but I know Hurley's had shrimp from the Texas Gulf! Any vendor names in and around Georgetown would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gazzer

You will find fresh local fish and a wide assortment of seafood at any of the Foster?s Food locations.

We do not recommend purchasing seafood or anything else from unlicensed sources.

Joe's right, the grocery stores really do have the best fresh fish around. Foster's has a great selection!

Sounds like you're a lot like my husband who wants his fish to be the very freshest it can be, and always asks what just came in when he goes to the store to buy it. You asked what type of fish to look for that might be caught in local waters........from what I understand, that would be tuna, wahoo and dophin (mahi mahi).

Thanks Joe and Scubachar,

Do you know if the Foster's on the north West Bay Road has a selection? We'll be staying close to that store? I know that Hurley's did not have much of a selection last year and they were the closest since we were on the Northside. What's wahoo like?

Thanks Gazzer

gazzer21256 - Foster's at the Strand will have a much better selection and it's only a few miles from their West Bay location. Wink

Thanks Joe. Is that the Foster's near the airport or is there another one?

The Foster's at the Strand is not the one at the airport. The Strand shopping center is way up the West Bay Road.....I think basically across from the Westin. It's not far at all from West Bay......the Foster's at West Bay is quite small, but the one at the Strand is beautiful.

If Foster's doesn't have the exact fish you are looking for, try Kirk's Supermarket closer to Georgetown.

The Strand is south of the Westin and the Ritz. It is between Canal Point Drive and Snug Harbor Drive, just a 10 minute walk north on West Bay Road from the Hyatt (or a 2-3 minute drive).

One of our first stops after checking into the Hyatt is stocking up at Foster's at the Strand. It is a large modern supermarket that has a large selection of fresh meat, chicken, fish produce, dairy and dry goods.

There is also a Blackbeard's Liquor store in the Strand Shopping Center and there is a Big Daddy's across from the Hyatt for all your libation needs. Don't forget there are coupons in the CAG for Blackbeard's and Big Daddy's.
