Hi All,

I'm leaving tomorrow and going nuts with excitement. We finally decided to rent a car so that we can stock up on groceries. Is the grocery store by the airport or at the Strand better (prices and selection)? Perhaps it doesn't even matter.

I'm watching the weather banner as I type this and either the Caymans is experiencing some really wicked weather or the weather info is wrong. The picture from the Royal Palms looks beautiful, but the banner says there is a heavy rain shower, 21mph wind and a temperature of -9999 degrees F. Wow! Must just be a very strong, passing storm.

In general, Foster's Food stores will have the best prices and greatest selection of the freshest foods. The airport and Strand locations are their largest stores.

We are staying at the Grand Caymanian. We arrive late on Saturday. Does anyone know the hours of the grocery store that is closest to this timeshare?

The grocery stores are open until 11pm on Sat. night. Probably Fosters in the Strand would be closest. There is a small Fosters in West Bay, but the one in the Strand is huge and has everything and anything you can think of. It's like a huge chain grocery store in the states.

The Strand is a strip mall where Fosters is located. It is shown on the maps if you leave the forums and go back to the main page.

Fosters is definately the closest. Not within walking tho so if you don't have a car you will need transportation. They have a shuttle but you may be too late for that. Easy to get to now from the bypass so you don't have to deal with the main road traffic. The resort can direct you.

FYI - if you want good ole US sliced bread you need to go to the opposite end of the store where the merchandise is to get it. The bread in the food section is more local bakery type bread (which is very good but the kids didn't like it for sandwiches) and not commercial type. (took me two years to figure that out - who knew bread was in the merchandise section of the store rolllaugh )

We are also staying at the Grand Caymanian (July 7-14). I was wondering were we should do our food shopping. Thanks for the info.

Do you recall how much the bag of charcoal cost you? We are wanting to grill while on vacation, but have not idea what to expect cost wise.

Thanks.

I can't remember how much we paid for charcoal, but everything is just a little bit more than in the states. I wouldn't worry about the charcoal--it falls in line with the prices of everything else--and the charcoal and what you buy to grill will be a whole lot cheaper than eating out.
