Greetings Brackers!

My fiance and I will be on the Brac from September 13-26 (we're getting married there on the 15th!). We plan to charter a boat for some deep sea fishing we were also hoping to do some shore fishing to pass the time away.

I've done some searching on the forum (which by the way is one of the most informative forums I've been to) and the brunt of it seems to be "take a day boat or charter". However, I was wondering if there are temporary fishing licenses for purchase so that you can catch and keep? We're staying in a guest house and would really like to catch dinner Smile

Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to the forum free2fly365 Smile , and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! What a beautiful spot to be married!

Yes, you are right, that in order to keep any fish that you catch from shore, you will need a Caymanian fishing license. I can't really tell you where to get one, though......I've been to Cayman Brac a few times, and my husband did do a lot of shore fishing, but he wasn't interested in keeping any, so he didn't get a license. Probably any of the deep sea fishing charters can tell you where to get one.

BUT.....you probably won't have any problem keeping some of your fish that you catch on a fishing charter, even without a license. That is because the captain will hold the license, therefore HE can keep the fish. We have learned, from experience, that the fish actually belong to the boat, but if you tell them ahead of time that you would like to keep enough for a meal or two, they will almost definitely agree to "give" you some fillets to take back to your house with you. It's really best to arrange for this before the boat leaves the dock, however.

You'll enjoy the Brac! It's so quiet and peaceful.....what a great place for your wedding/honeymoon heart !

Char

Hello, free2fly365!

I believe Char is correct in her assessment of charter boat fishing. As for the bank fishing, it's catch-and-release unless you have a license...... and the license is an outrageous $400! If you just like to catch them, no problem.... if you want to have fish for dinner, you can buy them fresh at several places here, or try some of the restaurants.

September 15th is a good day to get married..... but then, so are most other days!.... And the Brac is a wonderful place to start your marriage. I just got married here April 29th after living here for a year or so.

Wishing you all the best!

How sweet you are!

I, too, am also very excited for our wedding and honeymoon. I think it will be perfect for us.

I haven't heard a single person say they were married tropical style and didn't love it palm
