Hello Everyone!

I'm trying to decide which snorkel sites to visit while in the Caymans, unfortunately I have a limited amount of time. Sad I read the "Snorkel Sites - Ratings" posting by Joe. This is super information. I was wondering if someone could take it a step further, however, and let me know which sites are great for sea life and which are great sites for coral. Also, at which sites might I be more likely to see turtles, octopi, star fish and whatever! My family has their snorkel gear and now it's up to me to come up with an itinerary.

We don't travel until June, but are so excited!

Cheers! --Pam

The best coral is at Queen's Monument, however, it is a hard to find location, hard to get in and out of the water. At most of the other snorkel location, the coral is beat up. I think a good place for your family would be Eden Rock. Yes, everyone goes there. It has easy entry. Large parrot fish and tarpon meet you as you enter. If you are a good swimmer and brave enough to swim out to the far bouys there is a good reef with lots of fish. You can see anything at this location. I also like up by the turtle farm, at Divetech for a good place. It is hard to find the seas calm there.

I'd agree with snorkel and add that at Eden Rock you can also watch the smaller fish up near the ladder. One word of warning, if you go out near the buoys at Eden Rock, maybe half way out try a little swim back toward the ladder. Sometimes there is quite a little current there, and we have had people with us that tired when trying to get back.

We saw a several turtles and a lot of squid behind the Cracked Conch.

Larger schools of fish at the Rum Point Public Beach.

We've seen reef sharks at Queen's Monument, and the prettiest corals there.

So many places to see and so little time. Thanks for the input and the warnings on the current. I'm going to try to narrow my selection down to three locations - my husband likes to have a plan. I will probably not include Rum Point on my list as it is on the other side of the island.

My vacation too starts June 27! We can hardly wait.
