We will be arriving on the Disney Magic with a 7 and 6 year old and need a place that would be good for them to see something while snorkeling and have read that Rum point is good for that. How long will it take to reach that beach? Does anyone have another suggestion. We would be going by taxi.

Hello and Welcome slg4crzn! wave

Getting to rum point really depends on the traffic....getting out of Georgetown, you can expext 45 minutes to an hour if you cut through on Frank Sound road......longer if you drive around.

Smith Cove really is a great place to snorkel and there are bathrooms and a picnic table there, but no food or drink....you have to bring a picnic basket, and it's not far from the terminal. I do have info on snorkeling in my trip report up by Rum Point as well as photos of Smith Cove if you are interested.

Also I have created a link you will be interested in if snorkeing is on your agenda

As always, it depends on the condition of the seas. With relatively calm seas, Smith Cove is a great choice. The Ironshore houses tons of fish and is only a few yards from the beach. Cemetary beach is a good alternate choice, but more swimming might be required. Not only is Rum Point far away, it is more of a swimmer's beach than a snorkeler's beach. It is shallow and sandy for quite a distance, with few fish.

I don't think Cemetary Reef would be the best place for 6 and 7 year olds. Don't you have to go out pretty far? When I went it seemed that way, but it was quite awhile ago. If I had young children with me, I would want something that was pretty close to shore.

Rum Point would be a good place for 6 or 7 year olds to just swim -it's very shallow for a ways out, it's also pretty calm -usually. There also are bathrooms and an alright beach restaurant with a kids menu.

It seemed to us that the snorkelers had to really go way out there to actually see anything. I know we were about 100 yards from the beach and it was still only knee deep and no fish to see. We headed back to shore before actually going the distance probably needed to do any meaningful snorkeling.

Smiths Cove looked very calm, even on a windy day. The cove was roped off to help prevent anyone from going out too far from shore and going to dangerous water, which seemed like an added safety at the beach. Snorkel Snorkel
