Thanks to everyone for all the good info on snorkeling sites around the island that's already out on this message board.

As one question that I couldn't find an answer to, what would you recommend as far as a couple good sites that have the easiest access from shore -- ie -- a short swim and easy shoreline? We'll have a mix of snorkelers along, from some very experienced folks to a couple beginners who would like a short swim and easy entrance.

We'll be staying near the north end of 7 mi beach, but will have a car and would be willing to drive to any good locations elsewhere on the island as well.

Thanks for the help,

Kevin

Hi, kkampfe.

Rum Point is extremely easy access. It is very shallow. There isn't as much to see here as compared to other spots. You can see some things under the dock, there is often a small stingray around, and if you go farther out you can see more.

Smith's Cove is another easy entry. The more advanced can go further along the shore or farther out, and the others can stay relatively close.

Many other places are easy entry, but are definitely a father swim. Once you build up some confidence in everyone, you could try the turtle farm reef at Cracked Conch/Macabuca. It sounds like it's an easier entry now. It gets deep very quickly, but it is really interesting to see from above.

Some other folks may have some more ideas.

Allison

On the western side, cemetary beach and Smith cove. Both have sandy access. Smith cove has a lot of ironshore on both sides of the sandy area that houses many fish.

If you are driving out east, check out the resort docks(Morritt's, the Reef, etc). They offer shallow water shelter to many schools of fish and visitors are welcome. Both resorts also have beach bars for refreshment after a snorkel. You get a great snorkeling experience, they sell a drink or two. Everybody wins!

I'd have to say that the new entrance ladder/ramp up at the Turtle Reef at the Cracked Conch would be extremely easy access, and it is just a short swim to the reef and the fish. Trouble is, it can get rough up there, are there are sometimes currents to deal with. Most of the time, though, it's very doable. Just ask at the shop and they will tell you what the currents are that day and how the conditions are.

Also, I'd really have to say that Eden Rock has a very easy access, since it has a nice ladder. Now, it is a little bit of a swim out to the deeper part, but I don't think it would be too bad, even for a beginner. For those who want to go out farther to the deeper water, they can, and if the others want to stay closer to shore, there's still lots of fun stuff to see.

Good luck!
