The Jolly Roger is a two-thirds replica of Christopher Columbus' 17th century Galleon called the Nina, which crossed the Atlantic on three occasions. the Nina had a crew of 25, navigated by the stars and was completely wind powered. the Jolly Roger is crewed by able-bodied "pirates". It is navigated by sophisticated electronics and is occasionally "iron-wind" powered.

The Jolly Roger was privately commissioned and built in 1986 in St. Petersburg, Florida, and christened the Lady Barbara, after the owners wife. The original owner had such strong feelings for his wife that he had the ship's figurehead sculpted in her likeness. To this day, Lady Barbara still graces the bow of the Jolly Roger, bringing good luck to all who sail aboard her.

The Lady Barbara was severely damaged by Hurricane Hugo off the coast of St. Thomas.

We take our kids on the Jolly Roger every year! The Jolly Roger offers both a sunset cruise and a pirate cruise (afternoon). The pirate cruise, which is offered in the afternoon is the one which is kid-friendly. Kids get a chance to fire the cannon, and walk the plank (or make their parents or siblings walk the plank). The cruise amounts to a short sale (or motor)from Georgetown harbor about half way up 7 Mile Beach and back, with a snorkel/swim stop along the way. The kids are conscripted into pirate service and made to swab the decks. Sometimes the pirates banter can be a little off-color but hey, they're pirates!

We took our grandson on the Jolly Roger . He was 11 or 12 and he was kind of bored and the food was more adult.

The Catamaran dinner and cruise is more fun for kids and they had foods both kids and adults would like.

The Jolly Roger is great! We haven't taken are kids yet, but will soon. It will be one of the first things we will do with them. If you get a chance do the sunset cruise its a blast. We even partied with the crew after at the Royal Palms...Fun bunch AAAARrrgghhh pirate

My husband and I went last June for a week. It was the most fun we've ever had. We want to go back in 09 with our kids. How many times have you been there? All I know is that I am addicted to the Caymans!! dancing

Last year was our first time.........going back for more......Caymans are wonderful, but we do like to try new places too.

Is there more than one Jolly Roger? We went on what I thought was the Jolly Roger in July. We had appetizers and cocktails. The ship did not look like this picture.

My family just returned from a ten-day trip to Grand Cayman. We had a wonderful time, but we did have one unpleasant experience with the Jolly Roger. We called the Jolly Roger and confirmed that the price was $28.00, and then reserved for our party of six for the afternoon cruise. As we have three children under the age of six, we thought that it would be fun for them.

When we arrived at the South Terminal, we were told by the woman collecting the admission fee that the cost was $40 rather than $28. She was adamant that the cost was $40, and when we told her that we had called first to confirm the price, her response was "That's impossible". She was quite rude about it as well.

Fortunately for us, another family who was also staying at Treasure Island recognized us, and came forward to say that the woman had just tried the same scam with them. They produced their copy of the activity guide (we had left ours in the condo), which advertised the rate as $28, just as we had said. The woman then shrugged, scowled, and grudgingly allowed us to pay the $28.

So, beware of this scam if you are planning to take the Jolly Roger cruise, and make sure you bring your copy of the activity guide with you!

Jolly Roger is great and inexpensive. All the rum punch you can drink within a 2 1/2 hr. time. Drinks and food all included. Yum! pirate

VacationwKids - The Jolly Roger implemented a small price increase (about $5) on some of their adventures that went into effect after our March issue had already been printed.

Any other discrepancy would seem to be attributed to confusion over CI and US dollar conversion.

I updated the first page in this topic several weeks ago when I first learned of the price increases; and our April issue reflects the new prices.

I apologize for any confusion or inconveniences anyone may have experienced.
