I'm traveling with a group who suggested going to swim & snorkel with the stingrays at Barrier Reef or Coral Gardens. Are these good places??

Thanks - looking forward to seeing the blue water again!! Very Happy

The shallow reef which is often paired up with a visit to stingray city sandbar goes by many different common names. "Coral gardens" is like floating on top of a lush tropical aquarium. A wide variety of colored fish living together in a small area. It's an easy snorkel, even with the rough seas we had on the day of our visit. Definitely go.

If you want a similar concentration of reef fish from a shore access point, try Smith Cove. However, the seas need to be calm there, or sand gets kicked up from the beach area and the water gets very cloudy.

I love the barrier reef. You get a chance to be up pretty close to the coral. I got some pretty cool pictures there on our last visit. Definitely go on an excursion to Stingray City and the Barrier Reef. Some tours will also include Coral Gardens. Have fun!
