Hi Barb, since the cruise ship passengers always go in the morning we have always scheduled our trips for the afternoon. One time our boat was the only one there! We had all the stingrays to ourselves!

You're welcome!

Also, if you haven't booked a trip yet, we used Soto's the first time we went and it was so cool we have used them every time since.

I have not booked a trip yet- How can you decide what day to plan to go when it's so far in advance?? I looked at the cruise ship schedules and many ships are going to be in port Tues-Fri during our stay in May. I'm confused with exactly how far in advance I should book?? Do you take your own snorkel equip if you have it??

I'm really excited for this experience!!!

barb

Yes--take your snorkel equipment. I would just book a few days in advance...but maybe someone else has some other ideas on that. If you are only going to be here a few days I would call ahead, but if you will be here for a week, I would call when I got down here....as long as your days are flexible. I'm sure you'll have a great time

Shelly:-)

Yes, take your snorkeling mask and snorkle, altho the tour operators will

"suggest" you not wear mask and snorkle the best view is under water!

But don't wear fins, our buddies the stingrays would not like those!

It's me, Barb. Somehow I think I mistyped my new email and have no idea where my info went so I created another account under 'Breezes'.

Glad to know about the fins- Are they startled by them? I think we're going to go with Soto Cruises and will book when we get down there.

The water at stingray city is only about 3-4' deep, with dozens of stingrays bumping into you looking for a treat it is hard enough to keep your balance in bare feet, wearing fins would be just too clumsy

If you've never been to stingray city you are in for a real treat! It is one of the coolest experiences I've ever been on, we've been a few times and it never gets old!

One time as I was underwater I had so many stingrays around me I felt like I was in a sardine can!

Man that sounds so cool! We're in for adventure (along with relaxation) and I LOVE nature!! Is there anything else we should definitely experience while in Cayman?? I've read a lot while on this site and you've all been SO helpful!

Unfortunately we won't have the opportunity to learn/become certified to scuba before we leave, which is a bummer but I'm hoping this will inspire us to pursue it in the future. I do have issues with "claustrophobia" though~

While you're there, try finding a "Scuba Resort Course". This will give you a relatively inexpensive intro to Scuba, without complete certification. Many dive ops offer them, try emailing the ones Joe recommends and see what you can find. It'll take most of a day, with a little classroom in the AM and a dive or two after that. You'll be hooked! I did it with Treasure Island Divers in 1995, but I don't think the dive shop is there anymore.

Claustrophobia isn't too much of an issue in warm water diving since you need not wear too much of a suit. Up here in da cold nort country, we gotta wear da wetsuits, ya know.

HA! I just looked where you're from and you're a Wolverine and I'm a Buckeye!!!! AAAAHHHHH...Illegal Fraternization~ (just kidding)

Do you follow the football rivalry? I did see where Michigan won the bowl game, we were rooting for them because the Gators....well...we don't like the Gators- :-) I'm not an over the top Buckeye fan so I don't set the trash dumpsters on fire when we lose- lol

Thanks for the dive info, I wondered if we could get in on a class or something while down there. That would be awesome to try!! I think I need to get over the claustrophobia anyways, life's too short for that crap!

Is there any special place I can find first time/non cert. dive info on this site?
