I am looking at my car rental again. I have a car reserved with andys right now. Due to CAL decision to totally mess with our flight I have to add a day. I have found Economy and Coconut will be cheaper for the same car. Anyone have experience w/ Economy or Coconut??

kptoys - You will also receive a discount with Economy for mentioning Activity Guide. Andys and Economy are the only two rental outfits we recommend. I'm sorry to hear your flight was changed but happy you are able to make it after all. Have a wonderful vacation. Very Happy

Economy is one of the recommended car rental agencies in the Activity Guide, so we always hope people will rent from either them or Andy's. Did you remember that there is a 20% discount coupon in the Actvity Guide which you could use when renting from Economy?

Speaking of that, I assume that you used the CAG20 discount code when you reserved your original car on-line from Andy's.

Another thing to consider is that Andy's gives you a 7th day free.....not sure if the others do.

Hope this helps,

Char

No, I didn't know that about Economy with the 20%... that is fabulous!

I did use the CAG20 for Andy's. We are renting the 8 seater van and the quote for the 9 original days we had was 770 (discount included). I have to add an additional day on there. I looked today and the same size vehicle from Economy (without discount) is 782 for 10 days. It's a no brainer really.

I emailed Economy and got a great price for the 10 day rental of my super bus.

Just one more question. They are right next to the airport right? Like someone can go rent the car and the others can grab luggage?

Your family has to go through Customs together since there is just one Customs form per family unit. So, you'll all get your luggage, then get in the line, then stop at Customs, answer a few questions, turn in your form and head out the door.

THEN, do what most people do, and just leave your family sitting outside the airport with your luggage (there's a few benches), while you head over to the car rental agency....yes, it's just about a "block" away!

OR......you can do what my friend Lynda and I do.....we take a cab (a large one) to the condo with ALL the luggage, while our hubbys walk across the street to Andy's to get the car. Then we check in to the condo and get settled (that means go buy wine), while the guys go to the grocery store rofl2 . We started doing that when we realized that we had too much luggage for four people and all our stuff in the rental car.

Works for us!

I like that idea. Does my hubby have to be present to get a license?

I kinda want to be in the car though when he sees GC for the first time. He has never been south of Tampa, Florida (poor sheltered boy). He's in for a tropical treat Smile

As for customs... Things must have changed since I have been there (yes 11 years so I guess some things are different). We used to get off the plane, go through customs, then grab luggage and get cars. Thanks for setting things straight for me Smile

Hi,

Yeah, they won't issue a license until you/he goes in person. We always rent from Andy's and they have an office right on 7 Mile Beach, so we just stop in there the first day or two and I get my license.

You said that it sounds like things have changed as far as going through Customs, but I'm not really sure they have (I've been going every year for over 23 years). I thought you were thinking that one of you could just leave the airport and go get the car, while the other one got the luggage and went through Customs. They won't let anyone out of the airport without turning in the Customs form, and since there is only one form per family, you both have to exit together.

Hope I didn't misunderstand your question.

Nope, I dont know who misunderstood who lol. I remember getting off the plane and as soon as you got off the plane you went through customs. THEN get your luggage. I did mean to all go through customs then get the car while we got the luggage but if we all have to leave together with all our luggage it's no big deal. As long as we are in Cayman it doesn't really matter Smile

Laughing When you first get off the plane, you go through Immigration.....those are the guys who make sure you have all the proper documents, etc. THEN you get your luggage (you were right) and THEN you go through Customs, which is where they ask about what is in your luggage and if you have anything to declare....that kind of thing.

Good luck on finding short lines......collecting ALL your luggage.....stepping out into that great Cayman warmth.........and then ENJOY!

By the way, when was the last time you were there? Sorry that I don't remember Embarassed

I think you're going to notice a few changes since you were there last.

I know the Ritz is going to be my biggest shocker since we will be staying right next door crying Beyond that if the beaches are still as wonderful as I remember a lot of things can change and I will still be in paradise Laughing Wink
