I am in the process of planning a wedding for approximately 60-75 people for April of 2008. People will be staying at the courtyard, Marriott, Westin and whatever other hotels they wish. The ceremony / reception are at the Ritz Carlton. I am looking for suggestions on bands. We would like someone who can play both caribbean music and more contemporary music everyone knows.

I would also appreciate any and all suggestions on places for the rehearsal dinner. I want something on SMB so that people can walk from their hotel. Something casual.

Does anyone have experience with Moby Dick Tours? I've been to Cayman a number of times, but we always went with random private charters. I would expect we'll probably have around 30 people for the snorkling trip, so I would like something affordable and private.

Last, but not least, spa appointments! The Ritz has a beautiful spa, but I am looking for somewhere that might be a bit more reasonable for people to get their hair done and / or a mani / pedi. Has anyone used the spa at the Marriott?

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!

Welcome to the forum, doyle Smile , and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! What a great idea to get married in such a beautiful place as the Cayman Islands!

As far as a Stingray City snorkeling charter for about 30 people, I would definitely contact Oh Boy Charters for that. Information for them can be found in the Fishing Thread in Miscellaneous Watersports.

I think that Michelle, one of our Moderators, loved the spa at the Marriott Beach Resort, which she and her bridal party used when she got married a year or so ago. Another suggestion is Spa 2 Go, which will come to you at your hotel.

As far as a location for your rehersal dinner, many people have loved going to Papagallo's, where they have private rooms for functions like that, but that wouldn't be in walking distance from any hotels. Otherwise, maybe reserve the outdoor deck at the Reef Grill at the Royal Palms. They would have live music there after 8:00 or 9:00 on a Friday night, which might be fun! That would be in walking distance to the Marriott Beach Resort and maybe the Westin (although that's kind of a long walk). Nothing is really in walking distance to the Marriott Courtyard, I'm afraid. Another suggestion for really casual would be Coconut Joe's, and that is basically across the street from the Marriott Beach Resort.....but not too close to the other hotels that you mentioned.

Hope this helps. Spend some time reading through some of the posts in our various forums, and if you still have questions, be sure to ask.

Good luck!

Char

Hi doyle -

Adding to Char's excellent suggestions, you definitely want to consider Grand Old House. I just posted some new pictures and will be adding a video soon

Moby Dick is a cruise ship affiliate company; they are usually swarming with people. I can't urge you strongly enough to heed Char's advice on that one!

You can save a fortune on your beauty needs by using Spa-2-Go. They will even come to your hotel or do it by the beach or anywhere you like. Wink

Congratulations on your most special occasion. Very Happy

Welcome doyle!!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Just some more additional points in addition to Joe & Char. Most of the Hotels, will give you either a discounted room, or a ROOM FOR FREE when reserving 10 or more rooms. It is nice to have your guests stay where ever they like, but I would push towards the Marriott Beach Resort ($$$) and Comfort Suites ($), purely because they are right next to eachother and you end up seeing your guests more often. Just a thought.

Also, Here is a link that can help put with your Bands.

CLICKHERE: Wedding Band Info

Also regarding the Spa, I used LA Mer Spa located in the Marriott Beach Resort. (I was staying there and got to know the staff very well-which is why I chose them) They were fabulous. We had champaign while we we waited on hand and feet. As part of the girls gifts, I gave them a gift certificate for mani & pedi's in their welcome bags. And for hair they were on their own.. Razz They are reasonable and also go beyond the call if duty.

CLICK HERE for contact info:MARRIOTT LA MER SPA

Our Hairdresser was Ann Marie and for Makeup it was Carla.

Grand old house is a fabulous suggestion and choice for your rehearsal dinner!

Hope this helps. Looking forward to hearing your upcoming plans!

Thanks for all of the advice! I agree that the Marriott and the Comfort Suites are ideally located. I think a number of people are staying at the Courtyard just because we were able to get a great rate there that's $100 less a night than any of the other hotels would offer for their group rate. All of the family and a number of friends are also staying at the Marriott. They don't seem to be nearly as helpful with the group rate. We're still working out the kinks on that one. The Ritz also seems to offer good group packages. Some people are also getting condos at Regal Beach which is right next door to the Marriott. Any other condo suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone tried the spa at the Ritz? I'm debating between there and the Marriott. I know the Ritz is more expensive, but it might be a bit more convenient since it's right at the hotel. Either one will work well. Glad to hear you had a good experience with the Marriott bc when I stopped in there the woman didn't seem to know much about anything. Did they do a nice job with hair? Myself and a number of the bridesmaids have short hair so there are only a few having their hair done. Thanks for the suggestion re: the gift certificate. I was thinking of doing it somehow and putting it in their welcome bag is a great idea.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a transportation company? We would like to have someone pick up the guests from the various hotels and take them to the Ritz for the wedding. That way we know everyone will be on time Wink The transportation through the Ritz seems pretty pricy. I was also thinking of possibly having someone pick people up at the airport since most people are coming in on the same flights.

Also, if anyone has suggestions for things for people to do while they're on the island I would appreciate it. Most people will be there April 10-15. I wanted to provide them with some information on the area and list some info of interest in the room bags.

Thanks for everything! This is a great site.

As for transportation See this link.

ELAINE TRANSPORTATION

Elaine will give you an amazing bargain in compared to any of the transportation available. Joe had reccomended her to me and I am so thankful! I used her services to pick up & drop off guests from airport, for the Rehearsal dinner, and then day of the wedding(last minute due to the Bantabano parade)! She came through each and everytime, and you can't ask for a more friendly and honest people on the island.
